I hear there are 13 contestants this year. Good luck to all of you, especially the girls (sorry about that guys  ). Wish I was there with you but it can't always be done. Have a great time. Learn lots. Can't wait to hear all about it.

A great looking line up :D . Unfortunately, for Aussies, there is a small matter of needing about $4000 just to arrive and survive. It won't be too long before we have enough ready for a Pacific Region Tournament, though. Aussies, New Zealanders, Indonesians, Possibly even Chinese and Japanese students, would find it easier on the budget to come here. But, today, this is about you guys. Do your best and have so much fun :D .

Thanks, Linda. It should be a good turnout, and a good time for learning.

Everyone seemed very happy with every aspect of the Tournament afterwards. Personally, I would say the level of skill exhibited is increasing & that, in general, competitors relied more on skill & less on power during this tournament. That is not to say they were not using power, Ian Glazer had a sword broken & weapons were knocked out of players hands. I also liked seeing how the play is "diversifying," that is players are changing weapons, Mike Wiseman switched up to a miaodao for the DE's & we had 3 matches go to the ground grappling, in one case Thomas Posey flipped his duifang & ended up over him with his jian pointing at his face.

Lots of photos of the contestants & play can be found at: http://picasaweb.google.com/vic.hung/Op ... ournament#

Photo: Mike Wiseman in blue facing Ian Glazer in gold. I'm in the blue gongfu jacket calling for "Center Action" after a pause in the play about to call "fight."

First European TCSL Open May 201!

Post by Scott M. Rodell » Mon Feb 14, 2011 9:04 am

Just thought everyone would want to know that organizing for the first
European Open Full Contact Chinese Swordplay Tournament
is proceeding along nicely.

The Tournament will be held May 28, '11 in Oldambt, Netherlands under the Traditional Chinese Sword League rules.

The event is being organized by the Dutch Jianfa Foundation, see: http://www.jianfa.nl/, as program of the on going Tai Chi Festival held in Oldambt yearly, see: http://oldambttaichi.nl/joomla/.
