weight distribution
Hello, for most postures in our form we have a totally different weight distribution then other taiji forms. Either almost full on rear or front leg. But I'm a little lost as far as single whip and elbow/shoulder strike is concerned. When I do these I am around 70% front and 30% rear. Up until half ...

Thanx Tashi,
I'll chew on this for a while.
Still a very long way to go.

Re: Becoming more martial
The same goes for practicing the aplications. Sometimes I deliberately do not move and they strike somewhere in mid air. I then tell them to really hit me. How else can one learn.
Maybe if you explain them that they hinder you in learning in stead of helping you by protecting you from harm.

Re: soft softer tuishou
Thanx for your kind wishes Roland. It is very very very hard to do. Being soft and letting go. My ego is much bigger then I want to admit. Especcialy when I play with classmates I could beat before. And know suddenly 99 out of a 100 I'm on the loosing site. That is to say: actually indeed I'm winnin...

soft softer tuishou
Off late I'm struggling with a shoulder injury. That means I have to take it easy. I abandoned all my weapons training and only do hand form and tuishou. It is in a way a blessing in disguise. While doing all the weapons work, I was neglecting my tai chi principles. Now I have time and even more the...

Re: Breathing, chi & focus: application and form.
Thanx Mark,
but this does not answer my initial question on the differences between application and some part of the form.
Any ideas on that?

Breathing, chi & focus: application and form.
Last October seminar, laoshi introduced us to the chi circulation: breath in - circulate through front to bubbling well & breath out - circulate up through back. Looking at the applications of the form then this fits perfectly with deflecting/taking in, rooting and give back (fa jin) I intercept an ...

Re: Right, step forward, thrust the palm to the heart
Reading is a hard thing to do! Reading it all and understanding it all, that is. I’m referring to the books of master Wang. Laoshi’s description made it even worse because our timing got off even more. First it was intercept and kick, bring arm down and strike. We did the technique both on a left an...

Right, step forward, thrust the palm to the heart
This is a question on an application from the first duan. Although it can also be found later on in the form. After the second shoulder strike we get: Right, step forward, thrust the palm to the heart. (book 1, photo 78 - 80) In the applications book photo's 212 - 216 The duifang punches with the le...

Re: Type of Dao for Tai chi
As with the jian, there is no special taiji jian or dao. I think (but that's just me thinking out loud) if you know which era that particular form was created, then you could have a look at the weapons from that period. For the dao-form laoshi teaches I like the willow leaf. But I've also used my mi...

questions on Yangshi Taiji Dao 2
While practising and reading the form steps I was wondering about the following: 19. Deflect, suibu into Jie 20. Turn into taitui, Lu (claw down), sink into front leg and Pu 21. Sink back, Gua there is a comma between "Lu" and "sink down into front leg" which suggests that you first do the lu and th...
