interesting
The current law in Australia, is that in assaults you are allowed to use a reasonable level of force to defend oneself. However this is a fine line because different people have different ideas as to what is reasonable.
If someone breaks into your house, trips and injures themselves however; they can sue you for not exercising a due duty of care.
Our country is quite repressive when it comes to weapons laws and more and more is becoming a police state.
That said if someone tried to harm my family or break in it wouldn't matter what laws were in place it would be ludicrous to sit and issue an invitation!

"There is nothing that does not become easier through familiarity" (Santideva).
"We become what we do repeatedly. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit" (Aristotle).
