Most who frequent this Forum probably know I have designed two new swords for CAS/Hanwei, one jian & one dao. I proposed several names for the new jian & after discussing them with the President of CAS/Hanwei we decided to let the people choose... so please indicate your choice...
The pinyin for each name in Mandarin is given for each proposed name, followed by a fairly literal translation of that name. If you are curious about the meaning of any of these Chinese names/terms, please feel free to ask. To be honest, some terms & concepts, like An in the name An Wu are difficult to translate in one word, but sound quite nice in Mandarin while also carrying a lot of meaning.

Shen Wu Bao Jian
In response to an email question...
Sorry folks, I edited the meaning for the first choice, Shen Wu Bao Jian. I had it originally as Spirit Sharp, but it should literally be Spirit Martial. This not the same as saying in English, Martial Spirit. It's not easy to translate this term neatly into English, but the meaning could be taken as a really fantastic level of martial skill.

The plan is to have them out for in time for the May 10 Tournament (see: http://www.swordleague.com/) but I honestly don't know if that is a set in stone plan. CAS/Hanwei is a big company & they are coming out with a lot of new products.Dave Chesser wrote:... Any idea when these swords will be out? Is there a price range for them?
I think the Chinese cutting swords should sell around $300 or less.

Wow! That sounds like a good deal. I just wish Hanwei would put up a preview of the swords on their website.Scott M. That is what is preventing me from being enable to 'name' the thing: without knowing how it looks, behaves or otherwise distinguishes itself.Dave Chesser wrote:I just wish Hanwei would put up a preview of the swords on their website.
It may very well be 'the' affordeable proper handling test sword quite a few people are waiting for.
If this prooves to be so that might be an apt name

Re: Help Name the New Hanwei Cutting Jian
Many people are talking blade on this jian, but, as far as the furniture, there are many sword styles that promote a handle grip only, but some styles use a grip that only puts three fingers on the handle, and the tigers mouth goes on the "brass." It almost reminds me of Italian fencing. Does anyone know if the furniture will allow for this?

I like An Wu Bao Jian.
I am very enthusiastic for this sword and plan on obtaining one. It is very nice for a practical affordable and historically viable Jian to be available in these troubled times.

I just noticed this thread is a year old.
I assume that when the sword comes out there will be a notice.

I'm over in Holland at the moment presenting Seminars, but I spoke to Barry Ross at CAS/Hanwei last week & heard that I should have the prototype by the end of the month for testing... keep your fingers crossed...
