Aspects of one handed swords.

I have a few question regarding single handed swords in regard to two handed blades.

1. Why are the one handed Jian and Dao so popular when there where so many historical examples of two handed swords?

2. Does training in single hand sword affect muscle development? I mean causing asymmetry due to the dominant hand developing more muscularity. I always try to practice cuts separately with both hands, but in forms it gets difficult.

3. Examining historical swords from many cultures I see there where more single handed ones than two handed. What are the benefits of single hand swords compared to two handed ones?

This final question is for Mr. Rodell:

I was watching your video "Rediscovering the Chinese longsword". At the end of the video you demonstrate techniques of the Miao Dao vs a jian.

Could you give some tips on how to use the jian when sparring against a two handed sword like the miao dao.

Thanks!
