Check out the News section for a new blurb on the school's match against the miao dao school in New York. You'll get to see Black Death, Evil John, Black Matt, and Dean smiling for the camera.

What's "maio dao"? Is that the sword in the photo on the right? Is it similar to the style used in kendo?

Miaodao means "Sprout Saber" & is names so for its shape. Basically its a Willow leaf sber with a longer handle. The two handed saber has about a 2,000 history in China.

Our friends in New York use shenai of Kendo probably because that's no real Chinese alternative available. They also have a different view of safety & protective gear than we have at GRTC.

Kendo is a sport & not at all like historical swordsmanship of any kind that I am aware of.
