Quality of an antique sword blade?

How does one tell if the blade of an antique sword is well made if you're not going to cut rattan or bambo with it??

Same question for new blades?

Also, how do you tell if the blade has been acid treated to make it look like Damascus steel?

Hi! I was wonder what do Chinese sword collectors think of double swords? I am referring to either jian or dao swords where two swords are stored into one scabbard, and are drawn as one, but are handles ae split in two halves. What Type of Blade are You Using for Cutting?

I was talking to Scott Rodell the other day about whether he used antique swords for cutting rattan and bamboo? He told me heavy cutting can break a blade and with antiques one doesn't know how close they are to the stress point of breaking, so because of that using antique swords is not recommended...
