Re: Question About Chinese Dao & Huang Fu Book

Ok guys I e-mailed all my contacts and one of my friends told me her Beijing Mandarin teacher and other friend helped provide the below translations of both swords: Baqua Dao: Waist Sword with Inlaid Silver Decoration of Multi-treasure and Bagua in Guard from Early mid-Qing dynasty This sword is mad...

Question About Chinese Dao & Huang Fu Book

Hi All! I don't know if any forum members can read Chinese, but I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me what Huang Fu is talking about on page 193 of his book, Iron and Steel Swords of China , regarding the dao with the ba qua style guard? http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt41/bond_fan...

Amazing Secrets of the Holistic Athlete Book Available Now

Hi All! Though not necessarily sword related, my book, Amazing Secrets of the Holistic Athlet e , has some great information that can be applied to swordsmanship. Here's a picture & description of the book: http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt41/bond_fan/holistic_book.jpg Amazing Secrets of the Hol...

Re: Custom Meteorite Jian Project

If your pic is shark skin, then I was right and the Seven Stars description is wrong, as their web site and the black scabbard Royal Peony pictured in this thread has the small circular pearls, which looks like ray skin to me.

Re: Custom Meteorite Jian Project

Nik,

The descrip on Seven Stars Trading Co. web site has it as black shark skin, not ray skin (My mistake). All I can say is it is smooth and even. Whether or not it is printed plastic foil I can't say, so Scott Rodell or Peter Dekker, who also sells Huanuo in Europe would have to comment on it.

Re: Custom Meteorite Jian Project

My Sword guy is nationally know and would not put fakes ray skin on it (Red scabbard). If you are referring to the black scabbard I would have you ask Scott Rodell if it's rolled on stuff or wait for his reply. I can say one can feel grain on the red scabbard, while the black one is consistently smo...

Re: Custom Meteorite Jian Project

The jian arrived today from my mounter, so here are pictures of it. Finally, after about two years I have the completed project and just before Christmas, a present to myself! A comparison between the Huanuo Royal Peony with Zitan handle and gold plated fittings (Top) and the Rick Barrett made...

Re: Custom Meteorite Jian Project

If your agent can help that would be cool. BTW I was not searching using jian cord wrap, rather I was using a description like silk cord 4mm 2mm yellow etc.

Re: Custom Meteorite Jian Project

Nik said, You should be looking for highest quality cord, not off-the-shelve stuff. Easier said than done. At one time Peter Dekkar was able to get some awesome real silk from China in blue color, for which he wrapped a dao handle for me that Phil Tom had made for a restoration project for me, but t...

Re: Custom Meteorite Jian Project

A sampling of four different colored handle wraps, one to be used on the meteorite jian. Of the four the greenish gold, second from the left seems the most true to images I have seen of Qianlong era swords with red scabbards and the imperial gold handle wrap. This shade looks closer to a sword that ...

Re: Putting Together Huanuo Jian Without Fittings

I was going to use the same handle. BTW I talked to a couple of sword makers and they said if the screwed threaded end is welded to the tang then it will be very strong and not be an issue about coming apart. Think about it, they weld bridges, building structures and other things together all the ti...
