Re: The Jian for the Active Outdoorsman
*grin* I think I was hopin the chinese military had come up w/ something extremely functional. as they must have had to drag their weapon around through all sorts of conditions I can hardly iimagine. They did... Could someone please repost that picture? I'm curious how the jian was actually carried...

Re: Terminology
Thanks! Regarding true and false egg: I agree it is not meaningful for naming the edges of the sword all by itself, but it is useful when writing down applications. You can write things like "divert to the side with the true edge pointing back/forward/up/down". I find it very useful for that kind of...

Re: Guard positions
Thanks for your answer. I have your book (good one!) My background is from Wudang / Practical TCC and we mainly use two guards for application work, a front guard and a back guard. Kind of difficult to explain with words, but I found this video clip discussing them if you want to see what I mean (f...

Re: Guard positions
Thanks for your answer. I have your book (good one!) and I know how you work with the basic cuts. I guess that most (all?) of the basic cuts would be possible to launch from other guards too. Hendrik Kivirand displayed some nice guard work during the 2008 TCSL tournament (just got the DVD!), but I w...

Terminology
In some western MA I have been in contact with they have the concept of "true edge" and "false edge" of the sword. The true edge is the one facing away from you (nearest to your knuckles) and it is the one you use most of the time. Do you know if this concept exist in Chinese swordsmanship too? Also...

Thanks for your quick answer! :-) So do you mean that in some aspects the mono steel version is actually better? How come? And what aspects are better? I take it that you have taken this approach yourself and have a mono steel sword? Have you been able to compare it to sanmei yourself? If so what we...

Seeking advice on buying a new jian
Hi, I would like to ask for some advice from all of you who own at least one sharp sword. I'm just back from a great weekend seminar (Swordfish 2007, http://www.ghfs.se/swordfish/) where I got another chance to do some test cutting. Once again I realized that test cutting is a really important aspec...

Swords from "Chien Zu Hao Jian Pu"
Has anyone any experience with swords from "Chien Zu Hao Jian Pu"? I have only seen cheaper ones that were not sharp. Those were quite good practice swords, but I wonder if the sharp ones are any good. I'm planning on buying a sword for some test cutting, but have not decided what to buy yet... Here...
