Re: Hanwei Cutting Jian?
Hey there, it's been awhile since I was on this forum, but I saw a link from Jon about the new sword over on the sword forum. Congrats Scott! The blade looks really nice and I look forward to seeing some cutting demos. I'm really looking forward to seeing your Dao design. I still have a Jian i want ...

Han Jian questions
Hey all, quick questions on the Han Jian 1) The handle is not the lausange shape of other jian, is the grip (the way you form your hand) on the this jian different from other jian? 2) Is this jian used more with two hands or one? 3) Do any jian techniques/movements change when using a Han Jian? Than...

Thanks Scott, I was actually thinking about this sword this morning, and had an idea on why it may not be able to used even though it is a one piece forging. If the blade is only hardened and tempered to the guard, then there is a weak point where blade meets the guard. If they tempered the whole sw...

Your cold steel Dao is a huanuo sword. According to Scott Rodell, Huanuo makes all of the asia Cold Steel swords. Although my Huanuo oxtail dao's pob is about 6.5" from the guard. My cord wrap bunches up some times as well. I'm still working on the laquer. I read somewhere on here that polyurethane ...

Paul Chen jian for cutting?
I know Paul Chen has stated that most, if not all of his Chinese line are not meant to used in cutting exercises, however, I was curious if anyone has tried using their one piece forged jian? This sword should be plenty strong enough for cutting exercises due to it's one piece construction. thanks h...

Ah, I see. I have noticed that I can through a palm strike best with the fingers up for striking above the chin, and fingers to the side for striking between the stomach and chin. With your fingers to the side (turned out), they are less likely to get tangled up. If you do feel your fingers getting ...

Palm strikes require alot of practice and training to do properly. As Scott mentioned, they are more difficult to learn than punches, and are taught at a higher level. In our style of kung fu, Kun Tao, we train beginner students how to punch correctly as to minimize the damage to your hand. When a m...
