Re: Softness and Martial Intent
I think that one possibility to get the answer is to define what is "force" (this "force" that we should not use). In my opinion it`s the force which is generated only by hands and arms or/and upper body. If your body is well connected, the power is generated mostly by legs while upper body and hand...

I do not ask about "internal" principles. I have already heard about some of them . And I have practised strikes against heavy books and my hands and fingers dont get hurt any more. So I belive that palm-strike can be powerful. My question is how to keep fingers safe in sanshou where you cant predic...

hitting with palm or fist
If we hit with fist, we can hurt our hand. But using palm seems even more dangerous, because fingers can be badly hurt. They can get stuck when oponent deflects or gets stuck to our oponents clothes. If we put some power to our strike, fingers can be broken. Any ideas how to protect fingers?

My humble opinion is that body can not stand up or move without using muscles. But the keypoint is h o w to use them. So, lifting big weights by using hand muscles certainly does not help to develop fajing. But we know that forms contain low postures. Also, at least one version of excercise "kick an...

Ok. My point was just to say that people can get different ideas, when they hear : "waist is commander" Willian Chen has written: "Although the waist is named in the Tai Chi Classics as being in command of the body, it was only from an external or the outer body’s viewpoint. It might have been overl...

Yes, it`s true that there is no contradiction and everything should move as one unit. It is just a matter of thinking and interpreting the words we hear. Also, some movements (some pushes, carry tiger, lifting spear) in michuan do not include circular movement of waist. So we could say that turning ...

turning the waist?
This should have been posted to "MiChuan discussion", but I am not a member of that group. So everyone has heard that waist is commander and we should turn it. But also we know that power comes from legs and root, sinking and rising (at least in michuan form and I dont practise any other). Personall...

I also have some thoughts about tihis issue. The book "There are no secrets" includes chapter about different types of massages. Specially good are massages for feet, kidneys and fingers. They help to move qi and increase sensitivity of body. When I first tried them, I couldn`t belive it works so we...
