Re: Historical Chinese fighting knives
... you see a lot of typical fighting knives... in catalogs and in online stores, but are these correct in any way whatsoever?... It is interesting that while we can find 1,000's of period Chinese swords to study, it is difficult to find many examples of knives. I assume this is because while there...

Historical Chinese fighting knives
Hello. I posted a thread on a couple of antique Chinese fighting-knives a while back.. Estimated to about 100 years old age. http://www.zheng-wu.com/forum/uploadedpics/doubleknife/doubleknife001.jpg http://forum.grtc.org/viewtopic.php?t=526&highlight=knives Now, are there any earlier examples of suc...

Hi, From what I know, Joe is not pulling the strings anymore. Do you know anything about this, Kenneth? I heard rumors of that as well, but I spoke to Vincent about a week ago and he mentioned Joe as the main reason for not making deadlines etc... So thats all I know as of right now... Best regards...

I sent a sms to Vincent. Its not really much he can do about it since its all up to Joe to get production/shipping etc. going, but at least he can bring Joe the word in person... Perhaps it'll speed things up a bit, although I wouldn't bet on it. :) Thanks Kenneth. I'd been wondering who was respon...

Hi Lucas, Huanuo seem to have stopped answering my emails now. I'm afraid that it doesn't look hopeful. Have you tried emailing them directly? I would be interested to know if you have any better luck with them. Hope that you aren't in the same position as me....... EDIT: I sent a sms to Vincent. I...

Here's a little update in the progress with the restoration of the WW2 Da Dao. There is obviously no inserted edge in this piece, and if there is differential hardening present; it is not visible to the naked eye. Pics are listed below: http://www.zheng-wu.com/forum/uploadedpics/dadao/dadao001.jpg h...

[...]read somewhere that historically, translating Dao to english meant "broadsword". Is that correct? [...] Dao simply translates as "knife"... It does not matter how long or short the blade is, as long as its single edge.. Any single edge arm or cooking apparel is a "knife". ;) Best regards, Kenn...

Both blade's handles seem to be composed of black and white buffalo horn, attached with brass pins. The caps are also brass, while the bolster seems to be of iron. White buffalo horn has been used for spacer between bolster and wood part of the handle. Black buffalo horn has been used on the back-si...

Chinese double knife set
Hello. I've posted a thread on these knives on SFI, but since the forum is somwhat.... uhm.. "not as active as it used to be", I'm posting here as well. ;) The cut'n paste can be displayed below: Hello. A few years back there was some pics circulating around SFI. Two different sets of Chinese fighti...

It would seem I got Mr. Zhou wrong on this one... The blade is old, but it is not an antique... It is one of Mr. Zhou's early blades. It had been rusting in a corner in his home for many years... He cannot remember how he made it.. Haha! He suspects that they were doing some twisting of several bars...

This really reminds me of the pattern achieved by starting with steel cables. Those were my exact thoughts when I first saw the pattern, However I doubt a wire was used. This is an old sword, most likely from around Qing dynasty. (I will have to ask Mr. Zhou for an accurate estimate). Best regards,...

I've been polishing a bit on this sword, and it would seem theres signs of differentially hardening and/or an inserted edge. It is still early to say, since I am only on 180grit stone at the moment. I will get back with more updates and pictures as I go along. I have decided to keep the nicks in the...
