Re: Saviolo fencing
[quote="RKurczewski"]Since I did a lot of italian fencing I'd dare to make one point. Yes, italian masters advised grabbing a sword of adversary (as a last resort) BUT please, remeber how blade of rapier of that time was shaped. Only as much as 1/3 of it was sharpened and, to be honest, cuts do not ...

Re: Type of Dao for Tai chi
For what I know, that form of the so-called Yang sabre is not even 8o yrs in usage, most probably influenced by western sabre forms.
I have seen many different forms of sabre used in Taijidao: willow leaf, ghost head, song style, even goose quill, all are fine!

No answer to your questions.
But I saw and heard him speak in person over here in Gaoxiong/Taiwan, very dissapointing.
And his top students were beaten very time they crossed hands, by the Taiwanese ZMQ players, no match, really, lol!

Re: Edge Sharpness Vs. Application
Agreed! When the technique is right, the cutting can be soothly done with a not so super sharp blade.
What I alsways wonder:
Why did the Japanese Katanas show such a sharpness? Or maybe that's a mis-information? Cutting the flowting leaf in the water, just by getting onto the still held blade?

Re: Dao Form Applications
Very interesting!
Does this also influence the general speed in training the forms of Jian and Dao?
Is there also a stronger centre control of the sword involved, whereas the momentum of the heavier sabre works a bit in the opposite direction?
Thanks!

Yes, I've read with great interest about your experiments, in another froum. But to tell you the truth, as you mentioned, I won't parry with steel anyway (only wood on bamboo, lol), and in cutting green bamboo around my house, I found the diamond shape much more forgiving, when a busy work schedule ...

Well, if I did insult you, then I'm sorry. But in my point of view, it was you who insulted my teacher. J.J. Song did not only have 80 yrs of MA under his belt, but also was a very good acupuncturits (taught at General Veterans Hospital Taibei), but also was an emminent member of the Yijing society ...

Ya, you better pray for more understanding, regarding reading books, be it in English or Chinese, not to talk of trigrams or the 5 phases.
But your teacher will have a hard job, noting your attitude.
Thank you for the time answering anyway!

[quote="J HepworthYoung"] ... Re: What is distinctive about Taijiquan?
[quote="Dan Pasek"] .... First, while I was taught the same five phases correlations that you list (i.e. “forward=metal”...), some traditional authors of Taijiquan have differing associations. One of Jang Jwing-Ming’s books, if I remember correctly, cites three different arrangements from various Ta...
