A bit of both, I imagine. The people in that picture are young kids, as far as I can tell.

He also teaches a style called Hunyuan tai ji. Anyone heard of this style? What distinguishes it from the others? I see that they teach wushu as well. That's a minus in my book. :( Hunyuan taijiquan combines Chen style tjq with Xinyiquan. It was developed by GM Feng Zhiqiang. Hunyuan certainly embo...

I know of him, and I have heard very good things about Master Chen Zhonghua. And the fact that he has been officially appointed to carry on Hong Junsheng's tradition endorses this, IMHO. Lineage doesn't have to mean a great deal, but it accouts for something. Check the school out, and then be your o...

Hi Trevor, I can recomend Yang's book on qin na. I have an older edition of that one... Yang, despite what reservations some purists might have vis à vis his taijiquan (White crane influence), his qin na control is top of the bill. I sometimes go train with one whom he taught, and it is always very ...

Modesty, Daar ga ik als ik even tijd heb, zeker es kijken! Vriendelijke groet uit Gent, België  Guys, sorry for this little talk in Dutch. But I like it when I come across a fellow Dutch speaker on an international forum. This also is valid for you, Peter Dekker. Many thanks for your signature...

Which makes me ask why we study martial arts if we are going to avoid using these skills as much as possible. That is a very important question, to which there is no clear cut answer, IMO. I mean, there are many variables to be taken into account. I think it's about correct assesment of any given s...

Okay ..... why was that said, and by whom? If it is important enough to be put on a sword blade, I'd like to know more. Now hang on a minute .... head, hands and feet equals 5. Your reference is to tuishou. Is there a connection with swordsmanship as well? I forgot to mention the knees. My mistake,...

Hey Linda. My guess is there should be 7 stars, right? There are two explanations, which I can give you on that. Firstly, the seven stars refer to the Big Dipper, a constellation which was said to be the depiction of China in the sky. I remember reading something about that in a text by Wang Chong, ...

Well, I'd say practise mostly barefooted when you have some spare time at home and when you specifically want to train balance. Then appearance is not your main goal, the form is then a means to an end. When you'd want to train your form to perfection, then I'd wear the soles. Remember, though. I st...

When standing on right, my yi is both in my root and the raised leg. With my bad side, standing on left, this is harder. I have to focus most of my attention on the leg I am standing on. Because I have to overcompensate for the structural shotcomings, kind of. I can see why that could be the problem...

Iglazer, I tend to swerve to the right or left when I am standing on my left leg. It is a structural misalignment which was caused by haemorrhage right after premature birth... The problem is that, to stand on my left leg, I have to gradually make that my centre. And thus I make it heavy, but my bal...
